Laguna Lake and Golf Course

Listening to city residents, I have heard the message loud and clear– the City must preserve Laguna Lake, Park natural resources and the Golf Course. As Mayor, I will advocate taking the least expensive, most effective course of action to restore the Lake, a treasured community asset. Loss of the lake would also negatively affect property values. I support exploring whether clearing the arm of the lake would control sediment buildup, as many Laguna area residents have proposed.

I also support the golf course. As the city faced $3 million budget cuts, I was duty bound to examine all of our expenditures, including the golf course. My concern was entirely financial. I never have questioned the important recreational value of the program. After examining the books and talking with a couple of golfers who did a great job of financial analysis, I have learned that the course brings in more revenue than any other recreation department program. I am convinced of the value of Laguna Lake Golf Course to the whole community.  And, I voted not to raise golf fees!
